Artist’s Note: I always like to do duet covers when the original is a duet. I thought hard about who I wanted to do this one with (and even flip flopped between which singer’s parts I should take) and eventually settled on this collab. My First Story’s vocalist took a softer approach to this performance, which I thought Trickle could replicate really well. Plus, I already have experience trying to sing similar to Hyde, so it worked out nicely. When I reached out to him about this, we were really excited to work together. I was also excited to try my hand at this instrumental, since My First Story is a band that I’ve come to really like over the past year or so, even before this song was announced.

This song is simple, so it was a little tricky to get across the message I wanted to with the limited amount of lyrics there were. Y’all know I’m a huge Demon Slayer fan, so I really wanted to get across the whole “living eternally as an empty shell, forgetting feelings like hope, joy, and love, versus living a finite life full of hope, joy, and love” and “our love will last forever even after we’re gone” themes that the series works on so well. I genuinely think the show could keep this theme for the whole final arc, too. They won’t, though.
